About

Jake's approximate birth date is April 21, 2005. He weighs approximately 13 lbs. He is neutered, vaccinated, and has tested negative for heartworm/lyme's disease. He has also received dental care and he has a registered microchip. Jake has a sad story that is told way too often in rescue. After living his entire life with an owner who he loved, he found himself surrendered to a shelter when he could no longer be cared for. This "shelter" deemed him "unadoptable" and he was scheduled for euthanasia. Is Jake a young scrappy puppy? No. Does he have age related health issues? Yes. Does he sometime feel like a crabby old man? Yep. Should this make him "unadoptable"? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Jake did not deserve to have his life end scared and alone in a shelter with strangers. He is safe in rescue now and is eagerly waiting for a new family to find him. One that won't desert him and promises to be there to the end. Jake is a sweet little guy who loves to be with his people and will jump into any available lap. He loves to be pet and is excited for belly rubs. He is fine with most other dogs close to his size, but can be a little crabby with bigger dogs sometimes. He would likely enjoy having a home to his own where he could be the center of attention! He does love to harass kittens, but may do well with a dog savvy cat after he learns that they won't be a game of chase! He sleeps quietly in his kennel overnight, but may enjoy to share a bed with his new family. Jake has age related health issues. He has had a dental procedure with tooth extractions. He is completely healed from that procedure and eagerly eats his dry food... although he really enjoys a treat of canned food! He seems to have some hearing and sight deficits typically of aging dogs. At this time, we believe that sight issues may be causing some type of anxiety as the sun sets. Maybe due to shadows? He seems to be a little bothered by movement of people or animals that are over his head. Because of this, he is being crated after dinner until darkness sets in and he is just fine with that! He will need to go to a family with no young children and one who is willing to work with this evening mystery! Don't let Jake's age fool you... he loves to be active and explore! He does like to run around free in the yard, so a physical fence is required. NO invisible fencing is permitted. If you are interested in meeting or adopting Jake, please complete an adoption application at: www.savingtails.net *Due to the STAR adoption process and the continuing support of our rescue animals, STAR does not do adoptions outside of a 60 mile radius of the Twin Cities area. Saving Tails Animal Rescue (STAR) is a 501(c)3 registered no-kill, non profit animal rescue. All animals are placed in loving foster homes until their forever family finds them. Because there is not a physical shelter location, foster homes are needed to help rescue local animals who are in danger of euthanasia.
