Calvin- Special Needs

Calvin- Special Needs is no longer available.

Calvin's approximate date of birth is April 30, 2019. He is neutered, age appropriately vaccinated, and he has tested negative for FIV/FELV. His adoption fee is $175.00 + tax. Calvin has special needs, but don't tell him that! He is a loving, laid back little guy whose tail waives like a sail as he is frollics around the house. He is what everyone who meets him calls a "pure delight", he just just happens to have Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH) also known as "Wobbly Cat Syndrome". Cerebellar hypoplasia (CH) is a disorder in which the cerebellum part of the brain doesn’t develop completely before birth. The cerebellum is responsible for motor control and coordination, so having an underdeveloped cerebellum results in jerky movements, clumsiness, and even tremors. Though there are varying degrees of severity, a cat affected by CH is generally wobbly and unsteady and will often fall over when walking. CH can be caused by a few different things, such as malnutrition, poisoning, or trauma while in utero; however, the most common causes in cats are the feline panleukopenia virus. While there is no cure or official medical treatment, there are many things like play and exercise that are extremely beneficial for CH cats to help them develop mobility and independence. CH is non-progressive disorder which does not cause pain nor get worse over time. It is also non-transferable to other animals. *Calvin would do best in a home with no children or with older children who understand how to treat animals with respect. Experience working with special needs is preferred, but not required. Love, understanding and patience is required! If you are interested in meeting or adopting a Saving Tails available pet, please complete an adoption application at Saving Tails Animal Rescue (STAR) is a 501(c)3 registered no-kill, non profit animal rescue. All animals are placed in loving foster homes until their forever family finds them. Because there is not a physical shelter location, foster homes are needed to help rescue local animals who are in danger of euthanasia.
